Sensory Friendly Hours

We know that a typical visit to Esplora Interactive Science Centre can be quite challenging for those who feel overwhelmed with loud sounds and bright lights. That is why, at Esplora we have the Sensory Friendly Hours where we will be adjusting the ambiance inside Esplora to allow neurodiverse children and adults to explore Esplora and fully enjoy everything that we have to offer in a peaceful atmosphere. Our team are trained and will always be on hand to support parents and caregivers if ever needed.

Our team are trained and will always be on hand to support parents and caregivers if ever needed.

From our reception desk, you can ask to borrow a Sensory Bag which includes items such as sand timers for turn-taking, visual aids, fidget toys, sunglasses and ear defenders. These items are available any time at Esplora to help make your visit more comfortable and enjoyable.

During the Sensory Friendly Hours, we will provide a map which highlights areas of our exhibition floor, in which you can find:

Noisy exhibits you may wish to avoid

Areas with bright lights that you may wish to avoid

Please be aware that for everyone’s safety we have a fire alarm system in place. In the event of the alarm going off there will unavoidably be a loud noise. Our team will let you know where to go to feel safe.

During the visit, you can participate in one of our Workshops or Science shows that have been specifically adapted for Sensory Friendly Hours. You can also enjoy our Planetarium and Universe experience if you would like!

Esplora is also proud to be a supporter of the Sunflower Scheme, we recognise the Sunflower and we also have lanyards, which you can take home and use at other locations that are a part of the scheme.
