Think Green, Act Green – Gharb

The Council is proposing to hold a promotional activity where it shall be promoting amongst its residents the benefits of being eco-friendly and having a green lifestyle. This is important since it reduces the risk of illness and respiratory diseases. During the activity a number of youths from the locality will be present thus contributing in reaching the young generation for a better future.

During the past years, the Council has been actively committed in promoting a healthy environment for its residents through the implementation of green and ecological projects thus transforming the locality into a green one. Through different funding opportunities the Council has managed to purchase a whole fleet of vehicles which are all fully electric with zero emissions. These include an eco-car serving as a transport service for the elderly, eco-truck used by the Council workers for their daily jobs, eco-bike for the community police and an eco-van which is used for daily transport of children towards the childcare centre and also for persons with special needs since it is equipped with a ramp and a lift chair.

Another project which the Council has managed to introduce is the provision of pedlacks which are presented to 16 year olds as a means of transport. These bikes are given to them with the aim of encouraging them to opt for eco-friendly transport instead of fuel. These are kept by the youths till they get their own vehicle.

Currently the Council is also embarking into the distribution of the pedlacks project amongst the young generation and into a pv panels project which will be the first of its nature amongst local council with the largest system of pv panels which will reach a zero carbon footprint. This project will be self sufficient and will though it the Council will sustain the electricity consumption of the football ground, playing fields, astronomy park and a multi purpose facility which will be implemented in the area.

Through these projects and other future ones the Council will continue aiming at having a Green Locality. The Council is proposing of including a promotional activity through which green projects in particular the youth pedlacks and the pv panels will be promoted encouraging its residents and visitors to go green while staying in Gharb. This promotion is essential to signify the benefits of using ecological means of transport which is not only ecological but also economical. The same goes to the pv panels since it is ecological, self sufficient and sustainable.
