VNRs are part of the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The VNR is a process by which countries take stock and assess progress and challenges in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. VNRs are presented during the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development.
The HLPF is central to the UN platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted at the UN Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015. The Forum meets annually for eight days under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and every four years at the level of Heads of State and Government under the auspices of the General Assembly for two days. The HLPF conducts regular reviews of the SDGs which are also based on country VNRs presented. For more information click here.
Malta submitted its First VNR in 2018. The scope of presenting subsequent VNRs is to show progress that has been made since the previous VNR and to build on each review. Malta committed to presenting its Second VNR during the 2024 UN HLPF on Sustainable Development.
