Birdlife MaltaShifting Sands - Restoring Malta's DunesThis habitat restoration initiative implemented by BirdLife Malta at Għadira Nature Reserve focused on the restoration and enhancement of a degraded sand-dune habitat. The project focused on removal of invasive vegetation, restoration of native dune plants, protection of recovering areas from disturbance, and raising public awareness on the importance of dune ecosystems. By adopting an ecosystem-restoration approach, it helped revive a threatened coastal habitat, supported biodiversity conservation, and demonstrated how targeted interventions can contribute to the recovery of Malta’s natural heritage and coastal resilience.
