Expo
The Young Artists, Big Impact Children’s Art Expo is a national initiative that invites children and young people to creatively explore the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Malta’s Sustainable Development Strategic Goals and reflect on how they can contribute to a more sustainable future for Malta. The Expo provides a platform for young voices to be heard, encouraging creativity, self‑expression and awareness of global and local sustainability challenges.
Eligibility
Criteria
The Expo is open to children and youths from Year 4 to Year 8 across Malta and Gozo. Participants should show what the SDGs mean to them (can be specific to just one or all) and/or how they as individuals can help Malta achieve the SDGs, in line with the entry rules and guidelines.
- Only applications from Malta and Gozo will be accepted.
- Any mixed media, 2D or 3D can be used to create the design, from painting or drawing to sculptures, literature (i.e., poems and short stories), photos and videos (not longer than 3 minutes) – the possibilities are open to the participant.
- High quality images/videos/pdfs are required for submission of entries.
- Try to use sustainable materials as much as possible – feel free to use your own imagination here too!
- A parent/guardian/teacher must submit the entry on behalf of the youth entrant. The submission should include the child’s name and age, school and Year, parents/guardian/teacher information and email address.
- Submission of entries is taken as giving permission for it and the child’s name to be displayed on our social media platforms and at the Exhibition.
- Each child/youth may submit one individual application, while each class may submit one collective class project.
Application
details
Submissions including drawings, paintings and sculptures should be delivered in their original form to the MEER offices (6 Qormi Road, Santa Venera) to the Sustainable Development Directorate.
Literature, photos and video entries must be submitted to [email protected] as an mp4 (video), jpeg/png (photos) or pdf (literature), with the email subject “Submission: Young Artists, Big Impact”.
Deadline: The deadline for all submission of entries is 3pm on Friday 29 May 2026.
The
Exhibition
All accepted submissions will form part of a national art exhibition, showcasing the creativity, ideas and perspectives of young people from across Malta and Gozo.
Artwork selected for exhibition is subject to review by the Sustainable Development Directorate. The Directorate’s decision on exhibited works is final.
This year’s exhibition will take place between 7 July and 19 July 2026 at MUŻA, Valletta.
