The dataset provides data on bathing sites with excellent water quality in Malta. This indicator measures the number and proportion of coastal bathing sites in Malta with excellent water quality and is part of the EU Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicator set used to monitor progress on SDG 14. The bathing water quality is assessed based on standards for microbiological parameters (intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli), with calculations based on the moving average result of 16 sampling events in four years. According to requirements of the Bathing Water Directive (BWD), Member States are to identify and assess the quality of all inland and marine bathing waters and to classify such waters as ‘poor’, ‘sufficient’, ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ depending on detected levels of faecal bacteria.
