
Mental First Aid Course in the Workplace and in Older Adults

In Collaboration with Richmond Foundation and St Vincent de Paul (SVP) Training Centre, two type of training programmes are being provided to SVP professionals: Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Course in the Workplace and MHFA in Older Adults.

In Collaboration with Richmond Foundation, MHFA in the Workplace and MHFA in Older Adults were both provided to SVP professionals, mostly Charge Nurses and Nurses.
MHFA in the Workplace
This course taught managers, supervisors and individuals how to assist a co-worker who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. However, course participants learnt mental health first aid skills that can be applied to help any adult. The course content, is tailored to the workplace setting using case-studies, videos and resources tailored to their learning needs. This course was provided to most of the top management and head of sections including 13 participants in total, attending a 12 hour lecture over 4 days at the Training Centre.
MHFA in Older Adults
This course teaches participants who work with, care for or support adults aged 65+ how to provide initial support to someone who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. It is a 12 hour face-to-face course, delivered at SVPs Training Centre over 2 days during working hours. Participants who complete the course become Mental Health First Aiders and are equipped with the knowledge, confidence and skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when it matters most.
The certificate for this course is valid for 3 years. It is planned to be kept ongoing until end of the year and to date, a total of 96 Nurses and Charge Nurses have completed this course.
