From Home to Humanity

6 October @ 09:30 8 October @ 13:00

The workshop ‘From Home to Humanity’ seeks to strengthen parental understanding of the values, skills, and dispositions necessary for fostering engaged and responsible citizens.

The workshop ‘From Home to Humanity’ seeks to strengthen parental understanding of the values, skills, and dispositions necessary for fostering engaged and responsible citizens. The session will commence with an introduction by Global Citizenship Education (GCED) officials from the Directorate for Early Years, Languages, and Humanities, outlining the Directorate’s role in monitoring the quality of GCED learning experiences and programmes at the school level.

Participants will then engage in an interactive online game and guided discussion designed to explore and reflect on the qualities that define active, responsible citizenship in contemporary society. Building on this foundation, they will take part in a dynamic “Island Quest” simulation in which groups imagine themselves stranded on an uninhabited island. Using a set of scenario-based game cards linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), participants will be tasked with identifying and prioritizing the essential social, environmental, and economic measures required to establish a viable and sustainable community.

The workshop will conclude with a collaborative debrief and reflective dialogue, enabling participants to consolidate insights, draw connections between the activities and real-world community engagement, and consider ways to model and nurture these values within the family setting.

This interactive workshop is designed to empower parents with practical tools and insights for fostering positive child upbringing, effective family management, and the development of responsible, engaged citizens. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and collaborative learning, participants will explore strategies that promote emotional intelligence, values-based parenting, and community engagement. The workshop also integrates all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), helping families understand their vital role in creating a more inclusive, just, and sustainable world—starting at home. By the end of the workshop, parents will be better equipped to raise compassionate, informed, and proactive children who contribute meaningfully to society.
