In Autumn 2020 the first batch of plant cushions for roof insulation was piloted. Once these survived the summer, all roofs were covered. These plant cushions help keep us warmer in winter and cooler in summer while attracting bees and other insects. Succulents are planted especially since they need little care and propagate easily. They are also very resistant to the elements and can easily be removed in case the need arises. Furthermore, they are very affordable to make particularly when using locally available materials, including shading weed mat, rockwool bark, compost, and tie wraps, among others.
